I called Winsor and Newton, who makes this product, and they told me it was never meant as a final coat, but rather is used to help speed up drying of the paint film. I purchased Liquin regular and fine detail and decided I didn't really like the smell, so decided to use galkyd products made by Gamblin colors (www.gamblincolors.com) instead. Since I work with Cold Wax Medium, I use Galkyd Gel as my preferred additive as it speeds up drying, increases strength and flexibility of paint film and gives the final paint finish a satin sheen (versus a matte finish).
