Flying with Gamsol & Painting Materials made with Gamsol
In the end, Transportation Security Agents in airports around the world make judgement calls on what is allowed to be transported in checked baggage. Getting through security without incident is more likely if your painting materials are thoughtfully packaged, easily accessible and accompanied by clearly highlighted Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for every item. For Gamsol and any eligible painting medium containing Gamsol, we recommend carrying small containers, securely capped and placed in re-sealable plastic bags. Place the Safety Data Sheet directly in the sealed bag with its corresponding material.
Gamsol is eligible for air transport in checked baggage according to the FAA, IATA and US DOT guidelines. With a flash point above 140°F, Gamsol is categorized as combustible, not a flammable.

US DOT
The US Department of Transportation (DOT) permits up to 10 liters of Gamsol for passenger air transport in checked baggage. Our recommendation is to take only what Gamsol you need while you’re at your painting destination. Gamsol may go in checked baggage (ideally, take a new unopened container). Check to make sure the cap is tight and place the container with its Safety Data Sheet in a re-sealable plastic bags. Pack your painting materials neatly in an easily accessible location.

Paints and solvents, flammable
Including thinners, turpentine, MEK, denatured alcohol, acetone, resins, lacquers, varnishes, stains.
Most paints and paint-related solvents are regulated as flammable liquids and are forbidden in carry-on or checked baggage.
Many (but not all) artist paints are nonflammable and, if posing no other hazard, may be carried in carry-on and checked baggage. However, paint not marked nonflammable by the manufacturer could be removed from luggage by airport screeners. If the manufacturer’s material safety data sheet (MSDS) indicates the paints are nonflammable, packing the MSDS with the paints may help avoid their removal from baggage.
A SDS will show if a paint or related product is a flammable liquid or not. When checking the SDS, a "flash point" at or below 140°F (60 ° C) indicates it is a flammable liquid and may not be carried in airline baggage. (Gamsol = 144°F, combustible, not flammable)
IATA International Air Transport Association
The IATA permits transport of combustible materials like Gamsol “Not Regulated for Air Transport” in checked baggage. “Not regulated” means that its physical properties don’t warrant regulation making it eligible for air transport properly packaged and documented in checked baggage.
