I spoke with the folks at Gamblin colors about this and the answer is yes, but they recommend one of the two ways to "prime" the surface:
First, gently sand the textured side and then wipe with a small amount of alcohol or Gamblins' Gamsol. Then,
1) apply two coats of Gamblin oil ground, letting each dry thoroughly in between (allow this to all dry for 7 - 10 days)
2) apply 2 thin coats of acrylic water based gesso.
Once thoroughly dry, you can use your oil/cwm on them!
