The encaustic process is thousands of years old and has stood the test of time. Damar resin (NOTE: This is NOT the same as Damar Varnish!) is the only resin I have ever heard of used to make encaustic medium. Any other type of resin you try should be considered highly wxperimental. Personally, I would rather stick with what is known in this case due to the long history of this medium!
Is Damar the only tree sap resin that can be used to mix in with the beeswax. Can pine resin be used? Print
