When I was just learning the encaustic medium, I spent quite a bit of time just making texture in a few layers of encaustic medium (no color). I learned a lot about how to make texture and then proceeded to try adding color and varying the way I fused with heat. Each new variable you introduce will create a whole new area of learning. So, one step at a time is one way to do it, or, embrace the child in you and “just do”. Do NOT worry about results. Just be sure to fuse well between layers and develop the attitude of experimentation. This is when the best things happen!
